Dr. Yasmin Rashid Writes Another Letter to CJ, Cites Human Rights Violations

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid has penned another letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, highlighting continued human rights violations over the past three years.

This marks Dr. Yasmin Rashid’s second letter to the Chief Justice, as she has yet to receive a response to her first appeal.

In her letter, she alleged that police personnel had unlawfully entered PTI members’ homes without warrants, violating the sanctity of privacy and home. She claimed that female PTI workers were subjected to violence, including being dragged by their hair and beaten.

Dr. Rashid further stated that false terrorism cases were filed against PTI members, and individuals were unlawfully detained to coerce them into leaving the party. She also pointed out that Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, was once again imprisoned as part of efforts to pressure the former prime minister.

The PTI leader expressed her personal ordeal, stating, “I am 75 years old and have been in jail for 22 months. I contested elections against Nawaz Sharif and won according to Form 45, yet I was denied victory. I filed a case in the Election Tribunal, but no decision has been made.”

Dr. Rashid criticized the 26th constitutional amendment and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), arguing that they have eroded fundamental human rights. She lamented that her basic rights have been completely stripped away but vowed to continue seeking justice.

“As a Muslim, I will not lose hope. I will keep knocking on the doors of justice,” she asserted.

Appealing to Chief Justice Afridi, she reminded him of the grave responsibility on his shoulders, emphasizing that women across the country were looking up to him to uphold their rights.

Notably, Dr. Yasmin Rashid had previously written her first letter on May 13, 2024, to former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa. In that letter, she had highlighted the plight of numerous PTI female workers who remain incarcerated without charges or the right to bail.
